If presented with the option of riding a merry-go-round or a ghost train, I would choose the ghost train. I’ve always been attracted to the macabre, fantastical, and bizarre. My work is an opportunity to explore these themes. It aims to elicit wonder and discomfort by creating a world that suggests and embraces illusion—the strange, the poetic, and the humorous. I work with an intuitive process, guided by subconscious desire with no room for sentimentality. A painting is often worked and reworked, leaving behind fragments and ideas to haunt behind the finished surface. But, ultimately, painting is really just about painting and exists entirely in the realm of paint. It’s compulsive, it struggles and flows. Every new painting is informed by the one that precedes it.”
